What to Ask Before You Hire a Lighting Company

There are a lot of landscape lighting companies. Most of them will give you the same result. Here are the questions that separate the good ones.

Do you provide a design plan before the install? If the answer is no, walk away. You should never agree to have lights installed on your property without a drawing showing exactly where each one goes.

What brand are the fixtures? If they cannot name a brand, or if the brand is one you have never heard of, ask what the fixtures are made of. Brass is good. Aluminum and plastic are not.

Who aims the lights? This sounds like a small thing. It is not. A light aimed three inches in the wrong direction can look terrible. The best companies aim every fixture by hand on install day and adjust them at dusk.

What happens if something breaks? Get the answer in writing. "We stand behind our work" means nothing. A written warranty with a specific response time means something.
