Brass costs more than plastic or aluminum. Here is why it is worth it, especially in New England.

We have seen aluminum fixtures turn green in two seasons. Plastic yellows, cracks, and fades. In salt air near the coast, they fall apart in a year.

Brass does the opposite. It weathers to a warm patina. It does not rust. It does not pit or corrode. A brass fixture installed today will still look great in 20 years.

It also just looks better. There is a weight to a brass fixture. It sits in the mulch like it belongs there. Plastic looks like it came from a hardware store, because it did.
