Timing your landscape lighting install in Massachusetts matters more than most people realize. Here is when to book, when to avoid, and how to get the best result.

The Short Answer: Spring or Early Fall

The best times to install landscape lighting in Massachusetts are April through June and August through October. These windows give you mild temperatures for the crew, ground that is workable for wire burial, and enough daylight to design and test the system before handing it off.

Why Spring Is Ideal

Spring installs in Massachusetts have several advantages. The ground has thawed from winter, which makes wire burial easier and cleaner. Plants are coming back, so you can see exactly where beds, trees, and borders will be, which matters a lot for fixture placement. And you get to enjoy the system through the longest, best evenings of the year starting in May and June.

We tend to book up in April and May quickly. Homeowners who decide they want lighting by summer start calling in March. If you want a spring install, reaching out in February or March is the right move.

Early Fall Is Almost as Good

August and September installs work well for the same reasons as spring, workable ground, mild weather, and clear visibility of the landscape. The added benefit is that you get the system running before the days get short. In Massachusetts, sunset starts moving earlier fast after Labor Day. An install in September means you are enjoying your lighting by October when you really need it.

What to Avoid: Midsummer and Winter

July and August are our busiest months and often fully booked. If you call in July looking for a three-week turnaround, the answer is usually no. Plan ahead.

December through February presents real installation challenges. Frozen ground makes wire burial difficult and sometimes impossible without equipment damage. We do install in winter for urgent projects, but it takes longer, costs more, and the results are harder to fine-tune when you cannot walk the property at dusk in comfortable conditions.

Holiday Lighting Timing

For holiday lighting specifically, October is the month. We schedule Christmas light installs from mid-October through Thanksgiving weekend. The best dates, first and second weeks of November, fill up by mid-October. If you want your lights up November 1st, you need to call in September.

The bottom line: reach out now regardless of when you want the install. We will hold your spot, send the design plan, and schedule for your preferred window. Reach out early, we fill up fast.
